granger's changers continued commitment to help cure blood cancer

It’s Friday morning, you’ve worked hard all week long and you’re tired. The last thing you want to think about is pulling on that suit and sitting uncomfortably at work for the duration of the day. At Ferriter Scobbo & Rodophele, PC, that suit is optional on Fridays. But the option comes with a hefty price tag: $5 to wear your jeans.  And employees aren’t paying for the fashion of it all, all the proceeds of Ferriter Scobbo jeans day go straight to “Granger’s Changers.”

Late in 2010, Ferriter Scobbo shareholder, Robert Granger was diagnosed with lymphoma. He spent the better half of 2011 battling the disease and, happily, has come through the fight healthy.  The news rocked our small office as the holidays approached that year, and everyone wanted to do something to show their support.   The “Granger’s Changers” jar quickly became a staple on the receptionist’s desk. After every morning coffee, trip to Cosi or that late afternoon snack stop, employees dumped their spare change into the jar. In 2010, the office unanimously voted to for-go the annual Christmas party and put the money that would have been spent into “Grangers Changers.” And yes, every Friday morning, several employees pulled on their favorite denim and threw their $5 into the jar.  By the beginning of Summer 2011, we were able to send $5,000.00 to the Massachusetts chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS).

The following year we launched a new event series: EpiCURE. EpiCURE brings professionals to our conference room to break bread in an intimate atmosphere where attendees can mingle with people of professional or personal importance.  There’s no attendance fee- so what’s the catch? Each attendee is asked to bring a donation for “Granger’s Changers.”  In early October 2011, a team of Ferriter Scobbo employees and friends walked Lake Quinnapowett in Wakefield, MA as part of the LLS’s Light the Night Walk. Each walker spent months reaching out to friends and relatives in our quest to support Rob. We managed to raise over $8,000.00 in that first year. And happily, on that rainy Sunday night, Rob was on the mend, and he was able to join us for the walk. That first year, LLS awarded the Granger’s Changer’s Walk team as “Outstanding New Team” for our collective efforts. After the 2013 walk, the Boston Business Journal included Ferriter Scobbo's Granger's Changers in their "Outside the Office" Section.

In 2011, we were able to donate over $13,000.00 to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Now, two years later, we’ve held six EpiCURE events, and we’ve just completed our third Light the Night Walk (check out the pictures below!), bringing the donations from Ferriter Scobbo employees, clients, friends and family to over $30,000.000. We thank everyone for their continued support of a great cause!

Now, with 2014 just around the corner, we’re thrilled that Rob is still healthy.  He too throws on his jeans every Friday and puts $5 into that glass jar with the knowledge that the meager effort might help make a big difference.
