Litigation

Ferriter Scobbo works with businesses and individuals to avoid litigation. However, if need be, we work to solve a wide range of civil litigation issues, from commercial transactions and contract disputes to general liability matters. Our attorneys represent and defend clients in state and federal trial and appellate courts and before state and federal regulatory agencies.

We approach each case with multi-disciplinary zeal, drawing upon our attorneys’ prior backgrounds and expertise in many fields – insurance, energy, employment and environmental regulation, to name a few – to solve problems quickly. Our senior attorneys work directly on litigation, facilitating fast turnaround with accurate results.

With extremely deep resources for a firm our size, Ferriter Scobbo garners consistent client praise for legal strategies that often take our opponents by surprise.

Because we believe that litigation is a last resort, we work with our clients to position them to avoid costly lawsuits. But litigation, of course, is not always avoidable and is at times necessary.

Our civil litigation practice has been honed on industries that require a thorough understanding of complex legal issues and meticulous regulatory details.

For example, our Firm’s president, Nicholas J. Scobbo, Jr., serves as the general counsel to the Massachusetts Municipal Wholesale Electric Company and the Massachusetts Municipal Utility Self-Insurance Trust, a trust fund that provides liability insurance coverage to municipal light departments in Massachusetts. We defend municipal light departments against claims of premise liability, negligence, property damage, discrimination, environmental and employment claims, and other problems that arise for trust members.

The Firm’s litigation work also extends into the employment arena. We have successfully represented national corporations, state and municipal entities, small businesses and professionals in a variety of employment-related litigation. These include: cases based on wrongful termination; age, sex and disability discrimination; harassment and retaliation; reasonable disability accommodations; wage and hour laws; unemployment benefits; workers and executive compensation; sales and distribution commissions; unfair labor practices; and breaches of contracts, among others.
