Summer Associate Hiring

Ferriter Scobbo & Rodophele, PC is accepting resumes for a 2010 Summer Associate position.  The deadline for submission is October 30, 2009.

Each year Ferriter Scobbo selects one second year law student to join our firm for ten weeks during the summer. The summer program is designed to give you an opportunity to learn about our firm and our practice. Also, it gives us an opportunity to learn about you with the prospect of hiring you as a full-time associate at the end of the summer.

We are a small, Boston-based firm. Our size has advantages. Our clients have direct access to our most senior attorneys. Young lawyers have the opportunity to work with and learn from all of our attorneys - from our President to our newest associate.

Your work involves current legal matters affecting our clients. You meet with the senior attorney when work is assigned. We encourage you to ask questions and learn as much as possible about the factual scenario underlying the legal issue. We involve you in client meetings, negotiations, closings, telephone conferences and court appearances. Your summer experience will be much like your work as a first-year associate with the firm.

One of our goals is to enhance your skills as you prepare to become an attorney. To do that, we give immediate feedback on your work through formal and informal evaluations. Attorneys consider various criteria when evaluating your work including legal reasoning, analysis and judgment, written and oral communication skills, and completion and thoroughness of assignments. In addition, you receive two formal evaluations. The first is held during the midpoint of the summer and the second is conducted at the end of the summer.

Everyone on our staff is willing to help you, but also we recognize the importance of having one person that you can go to with questions. We assign a mentor to work with you. The mentor assists in orienting you to firm policies and procedures and in guiding you through complex assignments.

The firm conducts regular meetings with attorneys, paralegals and summer associates. The meetings are presented by our attorneys or outside experts on a variety of topics. The meetings focus on our practice areas, professional responsibility and business matters. Topics of discussion have included the Amended Federal Rules of Civil Procedure regarding discovery of electronically stored information, presentation skills in court or before a group of people, and the delivery of legal services from a client''s perspective.

Summer associates also take advantage of many client development and social activities during the summer. The firm actively supports the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Breakfast Forums. The firm invites a mix of attorneys and clients to join our table and hear from government officials about current topics affecting the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Also, we have fun activities including music concerts at the Bank of America Pavilion, fabulous box seats at Fenway Park and other sporting events, and impromptu firm gatherings that occur throughout the summer.

We consider several criteria when reviewing resumes. These include students in the top 20-25% of their class; students with a local connection; and although not as critical, students with an undergraduate degree in finance, economics, and/or engineering.

If you are interested in joining our firm, please submit a cover letter, resume and transcript to Lynn Denoyelle, Legal Administrator at:
